We sort relevance and irrelevance in the contexts of various forms of information material. 

A painting is a collection of visual markings

A database is a collection of visual markings. 


Markings are added and removed.
Markings are arranged and rearranged endlessly. 
Some of the markings are seen by observing the surface or interface. 
There are more markings in the compiled object 

than can be seen at one time. 
Markings represent information that means something to someone
or thing
The meaning of the markings changes  due to the way the markings are arranged. The meaning of the markings changes due to the way 
the markings are seen or read. 
Markings of a given painting or database are to arranged to process some sort of meaningful information --or not.

The object of database or painting is interpreted in unexpected ways.

The information, markings and symbols is entered or designed with some form of intent at some point. -- or not.

But at some points the information, markings and symbols

break away from intent.


 Markings may be covered, hidden erased or scraped out 

but they leave a trace of having existed.


Data grows or emerges beyond any intended or contrived format.

It is incomplete, uncertain and marginally useful.
