“It is on this path [of modern art movements] that Wendy Angel comes down, and from which she emerges as a chance-taker and hero willing to attempt to create aesthetic and emotional order out of the chaotic dissonance of color, texture, rhythm, shape, form and a painterly pictorial space.

“…not dissimilar to the trailblazer’s coming to a clearing after an intense period of forging a path where no path was apparent. One can feel a sense of arrival, balance and completion in the balance of the elements.” –Rick Deragon, Monterey County Herald

^ Excerpts >

Wendy Angel was born on the central coast of California and spent her childhood on the west coast from Los Angeles to British Columbia. She graduated high school two years early and moved to New York.

In the next decade she traveled, studied and resided in Europe, Israel and Hawaii periodically returning to the west coast to earn a BA from the University of California, Santa Cruz and to live in San Francisco.

In 1989 Angel returned to Santa Cruz for an earthquake and a year program of graduate work in visual art. In the 1990’s she continued studio work, engaged in artist collaborations, and periodically taught art in Hawaii, California and Israel.

In the mid 1990’s Angel became increasingly interested in digital forms and new media. This led to the completion of an MFA in New media Art at the Cadre Laboratory at San Jose State University.

In the past decade she has continued work in various media as well as paint and taught college classes in art practice, art history and art appreciation.

"Wendy Angel is a contemporary artist from California who creates paintings that analyze the physical and psychological aspects of consciousness. Her works are characterized by their complex visual and emotional nuances which depict human experience in the modern world.” –M Takemoto, ARTBEAT
